President of India Droupadi Murmu has presented the 71st National Film Awards to Indian Film actors, actresses, and technicians for their outstanding work in movies. This event was held on 23rd September 2025, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. These National awards are given for the best of Indian cinema in 2023. The awards include the Dadasaheb Phalke Award(highest cinema honour), Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Feature Film, Best Director, and more.
71st National Film Awards 2025 Celebrate Excellence in Indian Cinema
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest award in Indian cinema and is given every year. This award was given to Malayalam superstar Mohanlal for his peak performance in his films. He received rewards such as Swarna Kamal, a Shawl, and Rs 10 Lakh. Devika Rani, in the 17th National Film Awards, was the first person to receive this award.
The National Film Awards, first presented in 1954, were established to recognise the achievements of Indian Cinema. This year, they were the 71st National Awards presented by the President and awarded by the National Film Development Corporation of India. These awards were announced on 1 August 2025 and presented on 23 September 2025 to the best-performing people in the Indian Film Industry. These awards encourage the people in the cinema who put hard work into Indian cinema and stun people with their performances.

The 71st National Film Awards ceremony started with the “Jana Gana Mana” anthem. The Awards were awarded, starting with the Best Film Critic, Utpal Datta. In these film awards, Shah Rukh Khan(SRK) and Rani Mukerji were awarded the first National Film Awards for their films Jawan and Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. In the award ceremony, SRK was told that his journey, which started from the Delhi theatre to Global stardom, is the story in itself. Also, in the National Awards speech, he was told that he is not just the National Award winner but also the “King of Arts.” Along with SRK and Rani Mukerji, Vikrant Massey also received the award for best actor role for the movie “12th Fail.” All those awarded the National Film Award were given the Swarna Kamal/Rajat Kamal, Certificate, and a cash prize.

Some more people were awarded National Awards for different category segments, including Best Choreography, which was given to Vaibhavi Merchant for the Bollywood film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Best Music Direction for Background Music was given to Harshavardhan Rameshwar for the film Animal. The Best lyrics award was presented to Kasarla Shyam for the Balagam Telugu movie.

- The Best Feature Film National award was given to Vinod Chopra Films(Producer), Vidhu Vinod Chopra(Director) for the 12th Fail Bollywood film.
- The Best Debut Film for a movie director is awarded to Ashish Avinash Bende for the Aatmapamphlet film.
- For providing wholesome Entertainment, the award for Best Popular Film goes to Dharma Productions(Producer) and Karan Johar(Director) for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
- The Best Children’s Film award goes to Aatpat Production and Zee Studios(Producers), and Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti(Director) for the film, Naal 2.
- The Best Film Award in AVGC in the Animator category is given to Jetty Venkat Kumar, and for Production and Director, Prime Show Entertainment(Producer) and Prasanth Varma(Director) are awarded for the film “Hanu-Man.”
